Chrome 89 beta reveals upcoming features coming to the browser

Google has begun preparations for the rollout of the next version of Chrome browser. Available in beta version, the Chrome 89 is set to bring a wide range of new features and improvements.

One of the new features that is going to arrive with Chrome 89 is improved Privacy Sandbox. The company plans to make the Sandbox a more secure “environment for personalisation that also protects user privacy.” The beta version offers the first glimpse of the personalised privacy Sandbox.

Another highlight is the Discover Feed. Google is making minor tweaks to how the content appears on the feed. According to AndroidPolice, the content currently appears in cards but are separated by dividers. The updated interface will make these cards more fluidly embedded. The cards will no longer show the description making them more visually rich.

There is a new interface for accessing the website information. When users tap on the info section, it will give you one pop-up to check access to camera and sound and other permissions.

Other small new features that will arrive with Chrome 89 are reminders for unread articles saved in the reading list, new reporting API for sites track usage, and support for AVIF content natively using AV1 decoders on Android and WebView.

Google recently rolled out Chrome v88 for users. The updated Chrome browser brings new password protection features. This includes an easy shortcut to determine passwords that are weak and quick access to edit them.

“We’ve all had moments where we’ve rushed to set up a new login, choosing a simple “name-of-your-pet” password to get set up quickly. However, weak passwords expose you to security risks and should be avoided. In Chrome 88, you can now complete a simple check to identify any weak passwords and take action easily,” Google had said in a blog post.
