Google announces redesigned security alert for all its apps

Google has announced new security updates starting with a redesigned security alert. Google is also making it easier to edit your location history data, and adding a guest mode to Assistant.

The new critical alert will appear irrespective of the Google app being used at the time. Currently, Google sends out emails to notify users of potential risks to their accounts. Google also says that the new alerts are spoof-free so if users see such pop-ups then they can be sure it’s legitimate. The new Google security alerts will start rolling out in the coming weeks with a broader rollout planned for early next year. Google confirmed to The Verge that iOS users will be getting these alerts first.

Google will soon let you edit your location history data in the ‘Timeline’ section. You will be able to add or edit places easily. Google will also start displaying your personal security and privacy settings for queries like “Is my Google Account secure?”

Guest mode on Google Assistant will work like incognito mode. Once you turn on guest mode, your Assistant interactions won’t be saved to your account. You can turn off guest mode and go back to using Google Assistant normally. Google will start rolling out guest mode in the coming weeks with Nest smart speakers and displays receiving it first.

Lastly, Google is adding smart replies and emoji recommendations to Gboard on Android 11. The suggestions will be made using on-device system intelligence which Google assures will not leave your phone.
