Nokia, the world's biggest cellphone maker, said on Monday that it has acquired Sega.com -- a subsidiary of Japanese video game maker, Sega Corp -- to improve its online games and services.
The takeover, completed on September 16, means that Nokia will use Sega.com Inc's multiplayer technology in its mobile N-Gage game deck that features 3D multiplayer gameplay using Bluetooth wireless technology and GPRS.
Nokia has slated October 7 for the worldwide launch of its N-Gage mobile phone that combines the features of a cellphone, MP3-player and a gaming deck.
Nokia is the cellphone market leader with about 36 per cent of all mobile phones sold worldwide, according to Gartner Dataquest. Last year, Nokia claimed a 38 per cent market share.
