Tech Wrap: Windows 11, WhatsApp, Twitter, Telegram and Microsoft turn top newsmakers

It was a day dedicated to new features in the world of technology today. On one hand, Telegram rolled out a major update on its platform bringing hosts of new features such as Flexible Forwarding, Unlimited Live Streams and more to its platform. On the other hand, Twitter rolled out a new feature called Safety Mode on its platform. Apart from this, Microsoft has announced its September 22 event. So, here’s what created a buzz in the tech world today:

Windows 11 update

Instead of expecting Windows users to download an app to verify if their PC or laptop is compatible with the Windows 11 update, Microsoft is reportedly testing a message that can be displayed inside Windows Update itself. It will inform users if their PC can run Windows 11, as reported by Windows Latest.

WhatsApp app fined record amount

WhatsApp app was slapped with a massive fine after it was found sharing people's data with other Facebook companies. Ireland hit Facebook's WhatsApp with a record 225 million euro ($266 million) fine on Thursday following an inquiry into the messaging app's transparency around sharing personal data with other Facebook companies. WhatsApp said the fine was "entirely disproportionate" and that it would appeal.

Telegram rolls out update to its platform

Telegram has released version 8.0 of its platform. This update brings unlimited live streams, flexible forwarding, jump to next channel, trending stickers, new animated emojis, and unread comment counter on its platform.

Microsoft announces September 22 hardware event

Microsoft will soon be hosting its annual hardware event. Microsoft in a post on social media, while announcing its upcoming event, revealed that it will be held at 11AM ET or (8:30PM IST) on Wednesday, September 22. The company is expected to launch Surface 2 Duo, Surface Book 4 and Surface Pro 8 laptop at the event.

Twitter Safety Mode announced

Twitter has started rolling out a new feature called Safety Mode feature to a small feedback group of users on iOS, Android, and Twitter.com. The Twitter Safety Mode is a feature that temporarily blocks accounts for seven days for using potentially harmful language, which includes insults or hateful remarks or sending repetitive and uninvited replies or mentions.

Apple hit with antitrust case in India

Apple Inc is facing an antitrust challenge in India for allegedly abusing its dominant position in the apps market by forcing developers to use its proprietary in-app purchase system, Reuters reported. In the coming weeks, the CCI will review the case and could order its investigations arm to conduct a wider probe, or dismiss it altogether if it finds no merit in it, said a source familiar with the matter.
