Xiaomi launched its latest fitness band ‘Mi Smart Band 5’ globally yesterday at its Mi Ecosystem event. The Mi Band 5 was first made official in China but the global variant lacks an important feature. This time too Xiaomi skipped the NFC sensor for its fitness band.
The Mi Band 5 is priced at EUR 40 which translates to roughly ₹3,400. Xiaomi is expected to launch the fitness band in India soon but there’s no confirmation on it yet. The fitness band was spotted on the BIS certification website hinting at its imminent launch. Mi Band 5 comes with some major upgrades over last year’s Mi Band 4. We take a look at what's different between the two fitness bands.
Bigger display
Xiaomi has increased the display size on the Mi Band 5 with a 1.1-inch AMOLED screen. The Mi Band 4 has a smaller 0.95-inch display. There are over 100 new watch faces on the Mi Band 5 as well featuring popular characters like SpongeBob SquarePants, Case Closed, and Hatsune Miku.
Magnetic dock charging
This is one big improvement on the Mi Band 5 as it doesn’t require users to remove the straps from the fitness tracking to charge it. There’s a magnetic dock now that attaches to the back of the Mi Band 5 for it to start charging.
Female health tracking
Mi Band 5 comes with support for menstrual cycle tracking. This is a good addition for female users who can now use the fitness band to keep a track of their menstrual cycle. This feature is not available on the Mi Band 4. It does come with other health features like heart rate and sleep monitoring.
More sports modes
Xiaomi Mi Band 5 comes with 11 professional sports modes like rowing machine, jump rope, indoor cycling and yoga. It also has a Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) feature that gives users better insight on their workouts and fitness. The Mi Band 4 also has sports modes like cycling, walking, pool swimming, and exercise.
