Microsoft's new Xbox app for Android will let users remotely play Xbox games streamed directly from their consoles. The new app, which comes with an overhauled design, has been launched by Microsoft and is rolling out to everyone.

Xbox's remote play feature, previously known as Console Streaming, allows users to remotely connect to an Xbox One console and play games that are downloaded on it.

This feature is different from Microsoft's xCloud service as users with Android phones can stream all their downloaded games directly from their Xbox one console. On the other hand, xCloud only works with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate titles and those are streamed from Microsoft's cloud servers.

The Verge had done a hands-on with the Xbox app last year and here's a look at it -

Besides game streaming, the Xbox app for Android has also been updated with a new design that ties in with the new dashboard changes coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X and Series S, reports The Verge. The new Xbox consoles will come with an updated controller that has a share button and the Xbox app design complements that. The app will let users know once a capture is down and uploaded so as you can share it on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and even on WhatsApp.

The new Xbox app also makes it easier for users to set up the Xbox Series X or the Series S that's coming to town in November. The mobile app can be used to configure settings while the console downloads the necessary updates. The app is also going to support the ability to install games to the home console, manage game library, free storage space and also serve as a remote control to navigate the Xbox console.

The new Xbox app is currently available in beta for Android smartphones and tabs and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. There is no news about iOS availability yet but it's likely to be coming around soon. However, it is unlikely that remote streaming of Xbox One games will be enabled as a part of the update for iOS, writes The Verge.
