Apple introduced the MagSafe tech and charger alongside the iPhone 12 series last year. Now they are one more accessory to that line - a battery pack for iPhones. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is working on a new MagSafe battery pack and might launch it soon.

The MagSafe battery pack will let iPhone users carry the battery pack with them with ease. And since the MagSafe magnets easily align the charger pack on the back of the phone, it is hassle-free charging as well.

All of the four iPhone Apple introduced last year - the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max support MagSafe. Apple already has the MagSafe charger, cases and wallets that work with all these devices.

A MagSafe battery pack is good news, particularly for the iPhone 12 mini. The smallest iPhone yet has a rather dismal battery life given its size. If you did buy an iPhone 12 mini, this MagSafe battery pack, as and when it launches, is something you should consider.

Sources also told Bloomberg that the “prototypes of the battery pack a white rubber exterior”. Apple has not made the accessory public yet and it remains to be seen of Apple is going to use the same material is did on its official charging cases.

There is no word on how this battery pack can be charged but it is possible that it might juice up with a MagSafe charger like the iPhones.

According to reports, this charging pack revealed some issues during internal testing. While the magnets might be strong enough to hold its own weight, software issues related to the charger might cause delays and if things don't work out, this idea might be scrapped entirely.

The source told Bloomberg that the iPhone was improperly triggering a warning that that pack was overheating. Another issue had to do with using the pack to charge an iPhone interchangeably, with or without a case.

Apple's AirPower Charging Mat, that was announced in 2017, never made it to the market and was eventually scrapped die to overheating of the charging coils. The mat needed to be large with small-sized coils so that that Apple Watch could be charged.

As compared to the AirPower Charging Mat, the MagSafe battery pack has a higher chance of becoming a possibility, however, the concern lies with how well the pack will be able to deliver fast-enough charging without overheating in common situations like charging in the pocket.
