Apple ProRAW: What it means, who can use it and when it is coming to iPhone 12 Pro
While Apple focussed a lot on 5G support during its iPhone 12 launch event, it also gave a lot of stress on the camera capabilities of the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. This time, the firm has tried making its iPhone 12 Pro Max slightly more than just a bigger screen and battery version of iPhone 12 Pro. There have been several camera upgrades in iPhone 12 Pro Max as well. While we have talked about its larger sensor size and sensor shift tech, one of the features that debuted this time was the Apple ProRAW.
This feature, as mentioned during the launch, won’t be available in iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max at the time of their release but will surely be coming later this year.
The feature is said to make use of multi-frame processing and computational photography like Deep Fusion and Smart HDR and delivers an image in RAW format. This image is highly customisable as you get a greater flexibility to play with image sharpening, white balance, tone mapping, channel mixer and highlights.
To achieve this, Apple says this feature won’t result in any shutter delays and will work with all the four cameras. The Apple ProRaw images can be edited directly in the Photos app and other professional photo editing apps. What’s more is that the firm is creating an API for third-party apps as well so they can capture images in same format.
Apple has not confirmed when exactly will this new feature reach the iPhone 12 models and whether this will be available in older iPhone 11 series or not.
