Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro is dead, claimed an unverified rumor that spread like a forest fire throughout micro blogging site Twitter on Monday.
A photo that purported to show the 85-year-old dead in a coffin accompanied the message, The New York Daily News reports.
But according to Euronews, the claim is not true, and may actually be an attempt to spread a Trojan horse computer virus.
This is not the first time Castro supposedly died.
An e-mail with the subject, "Fidel is Dead," was spread online in August 2011. It included a video, which apparently infected computers when played.
Twitter is often used to spread fake death claims. Jon Bon Jovi was another recent victim, causing the New Jersey rocker to post a photo on Facebook to prove he was still alive.
