'Game & Wario' and 'Project P-100' crop up on Wii U site

And while time constraints, technical hitches, or projected release dates could have interfered with their inclusion in Nintendo's June 5 stage show, perhaps it's similarities to other titles that prevented these two from making the cut.

Two Wii U games that missed Nintendo's E3 stage show are still well worth a look: bonkers mini-game collection Game & Wario, and the crowd vs monster title Project P-100.

Mini-games for up to five players are contained within Game & Wario, whose title harks back to Nintendo's original dual-screen gadget, the Game & Watch, long before the Nintendo DS took off.

Four of G&W's challenges have been detailed, called Arrow, Ski, Shutter and Fruit, and requiring the player or players to use the Wii U GamePad's touch screen, tilt sensor, camera or discreet display.

Project P-100 is a somewhat unlikely candidate from Platinum Games which tends to display a preference for action-heavy, violent spectacle (Vanquish, Bayonetta, Mad World).

Giant aliens are invading and even heroes such as Bonzai Man, Vending Machine Man, and Toilet Bowl Man know they need the help of ordinary citizens to win the fight.

So players trot around colorful cityscapes, saving and recruiting bystanders, before morphing their followers into giant fists, bridges or shields to keep the beasts at bay.

It's a bit like a cross between gaming gems Katamari Damacy, Viewtiful Joe and Nintendo classic Pikmin.

And while time constraints, technical hitches, or projected release dates could have interfered with their inclusion in Nintendo's June 5 stage show, perhaps it's similarities to other titles that prevented these two from making the cut.

Own-brand Pikmin 3 opened proceedings, presented by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, chosen to demonstrate the additional options offered by the Wii U's tablet-style GamePad, while Nintendo Land is the manufacturer's preferred bundle of mini-games tailored to the system's strengths.

But though Wario and P-100 might not receive the same marketing shove that others are due, it goes to show that there are several interesting Wii U titles in the works for those prepared to do a little digging and take a risk.
