Huawei’s next flagship chip is going to be a 3nm one, to be called Kirin 9010

And if all goes as expected, the new Kirin 9010 should launch this year and power the new Huawei Mate 50 series by the fourth quarter of 2021.

Huawei just launched the Kirin 9000 a few months ago and that chipset comes in two variants - the Kirin 9000 and the Kirin 9000E and is currently only found in the Huawei Mate 40 series smartphones. Now, according to a tipster, the next flagship Kirin processor is coming soon and will be called the Kirin 9010.

This new information about the new Kirin processor comes from a tipster on Twitter who goes by the name @RODENT950. And according to the tweet he posted, the next-gen Kirin processor is going to be a 3nm chipset.

The Kirin 9000 was the first 5nm processor for Android devices. Other 5nm chipsets like the Samsung Exynos 1080 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 followed soon after. While most people have been expecting Huawei to stick to the 5nm process for another two years at least, it seems like the company is ready to move on to the 3nm process for the next chip. 

And if all goes as expected, the new Kirin 9010 should launch this year and power the new Huawei Mate 50 series by the fourth quarter of 2021.

It won't be wrong to assume that other chip manufacturers like Qualcomm etc will follow suit and move on to 3nm for their next-gen flagship chipsets if this tip about the Kirin 9010 is correct. Qualcomm has already announced they are launching the Snapdragon 888 Plus later this year, but that should also be a 5nm one like the Snapdragon 888 but with higher clock speeds.

Samsung, on the other hand, is reportedly going to skip the 4nm process and jump straight to 3nm. Apple is also pegged to announce 3nm processors that will be built by TSMC, however, these are not coming till 2022. There is a chance then that Huawei might be the first company to announce a 3nm chip.
