More than 150 million tweets about the Olympics have been recorded by Twitter over the event's 16 days, reports the microblogging service.
The event that got the most tweets was Usain Bolt's win in the 200m dash, which generated more than 80,000 tweets per minute (tpm) at its peak. The Jamaican sprinter's performance in the 100m dash comes next (74,000 tpm), followed by tennis star Andy Murray's victory (57,000), Jamaica's new record at the 4x100m race (52,000 tpm) and the rematch of the 2008 men's basketball final between the US and Spain (41,000).
The most tweeted-about athletes were, in descending order, Usain Bolt (@UsainBolt), Michael Phelps (@MichaelPhelps), Tom Daley (@TomDaley1994), Ryan Lochte (@ryanlochte), Gabby Douglas (@gabrielledoug) and Andy Murray (@andy_murray).
