WhatsApp users will soon get a feature to use their Avatar as the profile photo. (HT Tech)

A few weeks ago, WhatsApp was reported to be working on Bitmoji-like avatars for app users. It was suggested that WhatsApp users would be able to use an avatar as a mask while placing video calls as well as share their Avatars as stickers with their contacts. Now, WhatsApp updates tracker, WabetaInfo has delivered another surprise for users! They will soon be able to use an Avatar as a profile photo on WhatsApp. Yes, users will get the tool to set their WhatsApp avatar profile photo instead of using their photo.

In the latest of WabetaInfo, it mentioned that “Avatars are a new way to be you on WhatsApp, available in a future update of WhatsApp beta for Android, iOS, and Desktop... There is an additional feature that avatars will offer to users: the ability to set up an avatar to use as a profile photo!”

Yes, these will be the same Avatars that you may already be using on your Facebook and Instagram accounts. Meta had introduced 3D Avatars for Facebook, Messenger as well as Instagram a few months ago and these allow users to create and customize a digital Bitmoji that resembles them. Users get the option to customize the hair, skin colour, eyes, outfits, accessories and more to create a perfect digital avatar of themselves. This same feature is rumoured to be coming to WhatsApp soon. It seems like WhatsApp is trying to follow the footprints of Facebook and Instagram while absorbing similar features.

WabetaInfo also shared a glimpse of how users will be able to mask their profile photo with an Avatar instead of a real photo. The shared screenshot suggests that “You will be able to choose the perfect avatar for you by customizing it. In addition, you will also be able to choose a background color to use within the profile photo.” It further confirmed that the feature is expected to feature on Whatsbeta for Android, iOS as well as a Desktop version.

Sadly, it is still unknown when the Avatar feature will be rolled out on WhatsApp since it is under development. Hence, you will have to wait a little longer than expected as it is still in its initial development stage.
