Activision’s Call of Duty Mobile recently celebrated the first anniversary of its launch. The battle royale-multiplayer hybrid game has sustained global popularity with users spending nearly 1 billion hours on the Android version in its peak month, reports App Annie.
According to the research firm, Call of Duty Mobile had gained rapid success shortly after its release as the game hit 100 million downloads across Android and iOS within 20 days of the launch.
App Annie pointed out that the growth rate has been quite similar to Pokemon Go which hit the same download milestone within 19 days. Call of Duty Mobile also fared better than PUBG Mobile which took 100 days to reach the 100 million downloads figure. Fortnite took 643 days to reach the same.
Call of Duty Mobile also fared well in the US as it was the most popular core game by downloads. Fortnite, Sniper 3D Assassin, and Pokemon Go also made it the top five list.

App Annie attributes Call of Duty Mobile’s growth to the maturity of the mobile gaming market which is set to surpass $100B in consumer spending by the end of 2020.
It further said that consumers have become more receptive to such core gaming apps on mobile. It said that core games contributed to 50% of time spent among the top 1,000 games by monthly active users.
“The success of Call of Duty: Mobile reflects the combination of bringing one of the world’s most beloved entertainment IPs to mobile devices that’s just as visceral and authentic as the console or PC versions. In our first year, we’ve reached existing fans of this great franchise in new ways, while also reaching new fans from all over the world. Since launch, we’ve committed ourselves to constantly bringing fresh new content, adding new modes and constantly improving the experience for our players. There’s an incredible amount of content that we’ve added, and we’re only getting started,” Chris Plummer, VP of Mobile at Activision is quoted as saying.
