Fitbit’s family of smartwatches always featured support for Google Assistant. This got even better when Fitbit, which has now been acquired by Google, launched the Fitbit Versa 2. With Versa 2 and then with Versa 3 and Fitbit Sense, the company bought support for Amazon Alexa to its smartwatches. This gave users the option to pick between Google’s virtual assistant, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa as their digital partners.

More recently, Fitbit introduced a new feature on its Fitbit Versa 3 and Fitbit Sense smartwatches that enables users to get audio responses from Google Assistant. For instance, if you ask Google Assistant to set an alarm for 7AM the following day, it will respond by saying, “Done. Your alarm’s set for tomorrow at 7AM.” Similarly, if you ask Google how well you slept, it would respond by saying, “Since yesterday, you slept a total of 6 hours and 10 mins,” if that is how long you slept. Fitbit in a blogpost said that users will see replies in text format along with the audio responses.

Now, an interesting thing about this feature is that it is optional and that users can easily turn this feature on or off whenever they want. The only caveat, as mentioned before, is that this feature is available only to Fitbit Sense and Fitbit Versa 3 users.

If you are using the Fitbit Versa 3 or Fitbit Sense, here’s how you can use Google Assistant on your Fitbit smartwatch:

Step 1: Open the Fitbit app on your smartphone.

Step 2: Tap on your profile picture.

Step 3: Now select your device.

Step 4: Now you will be asked to pick between Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa as your virtual assistant. Tap on Google Assistant.

Step 5: Next, tap on the Activate Google Assistant button. If you don’t have the Google Assistant app on your phone, you will be prompted to install it.

Step 6: In the subsequent screens, tap on Activate and Turn On buttons.

Step 7: Once Google Assistant is ready on your smartwatch, tap on the Done button.

Step 8: Now, connect your Google account with Fitbit.
