Apple's 2021 MacBook Pro models could sport HDMI port along with SD card reader: Analyst

Apple’s rumoured plans on bringing back an SD card reader to its MacBook Pro models are not exactly recent news, but the Cupertino company could also be looking to equip the devices with an HDMI port, according to an analyst.

The news about the card reader’s return surprised many last month, after Bloomberg pointed out that it was likely to make a comeback. However, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, just like the sd card reader, the popular video output port could also be a “practical change” for most users.

According to a research note that MacRumours obtained, Kuo believes that the company is planning to bring many design changes as well as modifications to two device’s specifications. Kuo is likely referring to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models that he spoke about in January which are both likely to see a new flat design, return of MagSafe charging and ports and the loss of the controversial Touch Bar.

The report also states that The two new models will likely be available in the second half of this year and that the Taiwan-based Genesys Logic would become the exclusive supplier for the SD card reader in the upcoming MacBook Pro.

In related MacBook news, a new report claims that the company could launch a 12.9 inch iPad Pro and a MacBook with mini-LED displays, and that Taiwanese firm Ennostar will begin producing the backlight units for the iPad Pro later this year. According to rumours, the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro might feature a faster A14X chipset and may also support 5G networks.
