However, the USB 80Gbps support, also known as USB4 version 2.0, currently has limitations. It is exclusively available on select devices powered by the Intel Core 14th Gen HX-series chip. The Windows Insider team has not yet disclosed when this standard will extend its support to a broader range of devices.

USB 4 Version 2.0 Cable Revolution

Looking back to last year, the USB Promoter Group, comprising industry giants such as Intel, Apple, Microsoft, HP, and Texas Instruments, hinted at the developments in a press release. USB 4 version 2.0 cables are set to utilise the USB-C connector, ensuring compatibility. The real revelation, however, lies in the notable upgrade, allowing for 80 Gbps operations using both existing 40 Gbps USB Type-C passive cables and the newly-defined 80 Gbps USB Type-C active cables, The Verge reported.

Furthermore, the USB 4 version 2.0 specification promises not only improved speeds for USB 3.2, exceeding 20 Gbps but also enhanced support for DisplayPort and PCIe. Leveraging the latest versions of these standards, this update signifies a significant stride forward, particularly for users engaged in simultaneous DisplayPort and USB operations.

As the technology landscape evolves, Microsoft's latest Windows 11 build marks a pivotal moment, setting the stage for a more advanced and interconnected digital experience. While currently exclusive to specific devices, the promise of wider adoption hints at an exciting future for USB4 version 2.0.
