MacBook Air with Mini-LED displays to come in 2022, says Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo

We may see Apple bring Mini-LED displays to the MacBook Air by next year and that’s also when the iPad Air models should come with OLED displays. This new update was shared by well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a research note recently. 

Older reports have suggested that Apple is going to launch MacBooks and iPad Pro models with Mini-LED displays soon, but it seems that these particular displays will be exclusive to iPad Pro models when it comes to tablets.

9to5Mac has cited Kuo’s research note to report that Apple’s MacBook Air with Mini-LED display is expected to come by 2022. The research note states that the new iPad Pro models coming next year will also use the Mini-LED displays but the other iPads, like the iPad Air models, will use OLED ones.

As per reports, the OLED displays that Apple plans to use for the iPad models will be flat and not curved at the bottom like the OLED displays on the iPhone. That should make these displays cheaper to produce.

However, given that OLED displays have a tendency to suffer from permanent image retention and/or burn-ins, Apple is in all likelihood not going to bring this tech to the iPad Pro models or MacBook models, as the report suggests.

This is not the first time OLED displays have been tipped for upcoming Apple products though. There have been reports suggesting that upcoming iPad and MacBook models will come with OLED displays, but now, as per the latest information, it seems like OLED displays will be exclusive to the cheaper iPad models and the iPhones.

Apple’s iPad Pros with Mini-LED displays are expected to come by April and they are being pegged to sport 11-inch and 12.9-inch screens. They should also be powered by a new processor that’s being expected to be at par with the Apple M1 chip. And there should also be the USB Type-C Thunderbolt Port.

However, Apple has not divulged any details about its upcoming devices so we’ll have to wait and watch.
