Apex Legends is finally coming to Android devices in India and the Philippines

Nearly a year and a half after it was announced that Electronic Arts Apex Legends was coming to mobile devices, the wildly popular battle royale game looks set to arrive on Android devices in the near future.

The game, which is already very popular on gaming consoles and PCs, is finally arriving for Android devices in the form of limited tests, that will be limited to certain geographic regions as spotted by 9to5Google. In a blog post on Tuesday, Game Director Chad Grenier announced that the first ‘regional beta’ test for Apex Legends would land “later this month” for users in India and the Philippines.

Terming the mobile port a “new version” of Apex Legends, Grenier says the game will remain true to the original, adding that the mobile version was designed with touchscreens in mind, and that controls had been streamlined and optimised by the company. However, the blog post makes no mention of whether the game will also feature controller support.

Pre-registrations for the game have already gone live on the Google Play Store for many Indian users, but it looks like some users are seeing an incompatibility error when they visit the game’s Play Store entry. We were able to pre-register for the game and turn on a setting to let the game automatically download once it is officially available. 

However, if you thought that you could simply download the game right away, think again. “We're keeping things small to start—just a few thousand players in India and the Philippines—but over the course of this year we're planning to roll the game out to more regions and more players around the world,” Grenier stated.

If you use an iPhone, you might have to wait a little longer as the company says that the game will only launch on Android at first. Since EA has built Apex Legends Mobile only for handheld devices, the company says that cross-platform play with PCs and consoles isn't going to happen. It will continue to remain a free-to-play game, the company adds.
