Apple foldable iPhone: Company tests flexible Samsung screen but with its own tech

We have already heard a lot about the ‘Foldable iPhone’. As per recent rumours, the firm seems to be testing two kinds of foldable designs as well. While one has a Samsung Galaxy Fold design, the other prototype has a Galaxy Z Flip folding design. The one with Galaxy Fold design was said to have two screens separated by a hinge in between instead of having a single flexible display. But now, as per tipster Jon Prosser, the company has started testing foldable iPhone prototypes using Samsung’s OLED flexible panel. This means, the device is being tested without a visible hinge in the middle.

Although there’s no timeline for the launch, Prosser, in his video adds that the screen is not the same flexible plastic OLED used in foldables right now. Apple is testing something called as “Chemically Strengthened Ceramic Shield Folding Glass”. We have heard about ‘Ceramic Shield’ glass in iPhone 12 and the one being tested in foldable iPhone can be the upgraded version. Prosser says that this is not a ‘Plastic’ foldable screen but it also not for sure how Apple plans to implement a glass fold screen.

Like Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, the Motorola Razr reboot and other offerings from Chinese companies including Huawei Technologies Co., a foldable iPhone would let Apple make a device with a larger screen in a more pocketable package. 

The reports have added that although both the models have been passed for durability, Apple might not be launching both. Instead, it may just launch one or the other.
