Apple iPhone 12 launch delays hints Broadcom

Apple typically launches its next generation iPhones in September and the phones are made available for purchase in the market shortly after. However, a new report suggests that iPhone 12 launch could be delayed this year.

The CEO of one of Apple suppliers, Broadcom, on Thursday said that a bump in the company’s wireless sector revenue will arrive a quarter later than usual hinting towards a delay in the launch of the iPhone 12 series smartphones.

In an earnings call on Thursday, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan, talked about a “major product cycle delay” at a “large North American mobile phone” customer, Bloomberg reported.

“We are in,” Tan said, adding, “The question is timing,” hinting towards a possible delay in iPhone 12 launch this year.

“Because of product cycle delays the trough for our fiscal year will be Q3. This coming quarter..Nothing has changed in terms of designs, nothing has changed in terms of the content,” including more 5G components,” the Broadcom CEO added.

Meanwhile, a separate report by Digitimes states smaller iPhone models, which includes two iPhone 12 models with a 6.1-inch display may go into production next month, that is July. These models will be using display panels supplied by LG Display and BOE and a separate touch controller supplied by a third party supplier.

These details are in sync with what the founder of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) Ross Young had said in a series of tweets last month. As per Young, iPhone 12 panel’s production could start around 6 week late from its scheduled time, which could push the launch date from September to October.
