Apple iPhone 13 series will have at least two models with LTPO screen, 120Hz refresh rate

Some new information about Apple’s upcoming iPhone, the iPhone 13, has popped up on the web. Ross Young, an analyst for Display Supply Chain Consultants, has suggested that LTPO displays might be used in at least two models in the iPhone 13 series. This means that not only iPhone 13 Pro Max could get the better screen, it might also come to iPhone 13 Pro.

“Heard some rumors in the industry and media that there would only be one LTPO model from Apple later this year. Can confirm that is not the case. Apple fans can relax!,” Ross tweeted.

In case you are thinking why LTPO screen is a big deal, that is because LTPO panels support variable refresh rate. This also means that at least two iPhones in the iPhone 13 lineup might just get 120Hz variable refresh rate displays. This also falls in line with the previous rumour of only ‘Pro’ models getting this panel while the vanilla iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 ‘Mini’ might stick with usual 60Hz AMOLED screens.

It has also been mentioned that Samsung will stay as the main supplier for new displays for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. For what’s worth, Apple has already used variable refresh rate or ‘ProMotion’ tech in iPad Pro models.

Talking about iPhone 13 displays, a recent leak showing the glass screen panel of the iPhone 13 models, have indicated that the notch will be smaller this time. From the looks of it, the height of the notch seems almost identical but the width is where it has reduced.

Also visible is that the ‘newer’ notch has a different design and placement of components. As rumoured before (and seen in the latest leaked images) the cutout shows the notch to feature all its sensors towards the lower side and speaker grille right on top. For now, in the iPhone 12 series, the speaker grille is placed right at the centre of the notch, with sensors on either side.
