Apple’s iPhone 13 has been in the news for quite some time now. Reports in the past have detailed the features that we can expect to see in the next-generation iPhones. Now, a new report suggests that Apple is planning to ditch Face ID in its upcoming iPhones.

Apple introduced Face ID with the launch of the iPhone X back in 2017. Now, a report by GizChina suggests that Apple is planning to ditch Face ID in its 2021 iPhones to opt for in-display fingerprint sensors.

The report says that the iPhone 13 will be the company’s first full-screen phone. It will sport a full-screen display sans a notch. The report quoting a tipster who goes by the name MauriQHD said that the iPhone 13 will come with a notch-less design and that it will have the same bezel thickness on all four sides. It is also expected to sport an under-screen fingerprint recognition feature that uses Qualcomm’s latest ultra-thin fingerprint recognition sensor that was introduced at CES 2021.

In addition to that, the iPhone 13 is likely to be equipped with Samsung’s LTPO screens that will get rid of the traditional 60Hz to move to faster and better 120Hz displays.

Meanwhile, a separate report by Bloomberg last month hinted towards the iPhone 13 series featuring support for both the Face ID and the Touch ID biometric authentication system. This was corroborated by a report by WSJ later in January. Apple typically launches its iPhones in September, which means we are seven to eight months away from the iPhone 13 launch. And so, it is too soon to say whether or not these reports are true. All we can do for now is wait for more reports to shed some light on the matter.
