Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL get their last and final updates

The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL officially reached their end of life status in October this year after three years of updates. Google had promised one last update for the devices which is rolling out now and is not a part of the December Pixel Feature drop.

Like the first Pixel device, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL skipped the November update but is getting the previous month’s patches along with the patches introduced in December as a part of its one final release, according to 9to5Google.

However, only the factory images for the manual installations are available right now and the OTA update has not reached the devices yet.

If you go to Settings, then to System and click on Advanced and on System update on the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL, it will still say that the regular updates have ended for the device. Once the update starts rolling out, this will change to ‘Check for updates’.

The last build is the RP1A.201005.004.A1 for both devices, and there’s only one version for all carriers:

The last rollout for these two devices is an important fix which continues to address Android 11 issues from the original launch in September. For example, Google in October addressed the fix for some devices stuck during boot, the fix to prevent inadvertent disablement of call notifications, the fix for missing auto-rotate icon in certain device orientations and the fix for undetected overview swipe gestures in launcher.

The Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL are not getting any of the December Pixel Feature Drop functionality we reported about. Those new features are limited to the Pixel 3 and later.
