Huawei Mate X2 to run on Kirin 9000 SoC

Huawei has already announced it will launch its next-generation foldable phone, Mate X2, on February 22. Ahead of the official launch, the company has also confirmed the smartphone will run on in-house Kirin 9000 processor.

Huawei had launched the Kirin 9000 SoC in October last year. The processor is based on 5nm process and is said to have up to 15.3 billion transistors. The SoC also comes with Arm Cortex-A77 CPU and 24-core Mali-G78 GPU. Other features of the SoC include Kirin ISP 6.0, Kirin Gaming+ 3.0, and Da Vinci Architecture 2.0 for AI. The chipset is pitted against Qualcomm’s new flagship chip, Snapdragon 888.

As far as the foldable phone goes, Huawei Mate X2 is said to come with a slimmer profile than the predecessor Mate X and Mate XS. In terms of specifications, the foldable phone will reportedly come with an 8-inch (2480x2200 pixels) display with 120Hz refresh rate. The phone will also offer a secondary display with a 6.4-inch panel. An official teaser hinted that the phone would offer an inward folding mechanism.

Apart from the Kirin 9000 SoC, A 4,400mAh battery with 66W fast charging will power the phone.

In the photography department, Huawei Mate X2 is rumoured to sport a quad-rear camera setup. The configuration may also include a 50-megapixel primary sensor. The camera will also be capable of shooting a 10x hybrid zoom and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

As of now, there is no word on price and global availability of the phone. We are likely to find out more about the Mate X2 in coming days.
