iPhone SE+ 5G now said to launch in April or May this year

The much-anticipated iPhone SE 3 2022, or now known as the iPhone SE+ 5G, is said to launch by April. Staying in line with previous iPhone SE 2020 announcement, an industry insider says that Apple could make the iPhone SE+ 5G official in late April or early May in 2022. Without carrying any major design change from the 2020 model, the new iPhone SE 2022 will primarily focus on 5G connectivity.

Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, says in his latest revelation that the iPhone SE+ 5G will be made official by the end of April or early May. The phone will go on sale around the same time too. Young says that the display panel for the new model is going into production this month, while production of the 5G model begins in February. Apple is yet to confirm any of this information, or comment on the leak.

iPhone SE+ 5G coming in Q2 2022

Young had previously suggested the “iPhone SE+ 5G” moniker for the new model instead of iPhone SE 3, or iPhone SE 2022. Despite the “Plus” in the name, the 2022 iPhone SE won’t offer any upgrades other than the chipset, say the leaks. Apple usually upgrades the iPhone SE in four years and this iPhone SE+ 5G is said to be more of a mid-life update with 5G connectivity and performance boosts. This is similar to what Apple does with the base level iPad.

Based on the leaked data so far, we know that the iPhone SE+ 5G is likely to retain the same features as the current-gen 2020 model.

-A 4.7-inch LCD display with thick bezels.

-A Touch ID sensor for biometric verification.

-A 12MP rear camera and a 7MP front camera.

-Same IP67 water and dust resistance rating.

-Will launch with the iOS 15

The only difference is said to be with the chipset. Apple could borrow the A15 Bionic chip from the iPhone 13. This will not only bring 5G connectivity to the iPhone SE but also bring substantial performance boosts.

However, rumours suggest that a bigger iPhone SE upgrade is scheduled for 2023, or 2024. Young, in one of the previous leaks has said the true next-gen iPhone SE will get a larger 5.7-inch display. This could be most likely based on the iPhone 13 Mini, which is expected to be replaced by an iPhone 14 Max this year.
