MediaTek on Tuesday announced the launch of the Dimensity 1200 chip in India. The latest chip brings flagship-level specifications as well as 5G support. Realme will be the first smartphone brand in India to offer a Dimensity 1200-powered smartphone.
According to MediaTek India Managing Director Anku Jain, the new SoC will help push smartphones with flagship-level features that include improved AI, camera, processor speed, gaming capabilities. Jain added that the company was expecting more OEMs to launch Dimensity 1200-powered phones in the near future.
It is worth noting that MediaTek first announced the Dimensity 1200 chip in December last year. Since then, a few phones with the chip have also launched. For instance, Realme last month launched GT Neo in China. Xiaomi’s Redmi is also working on its first-ever gaming phone with the high-end MediaTek chip.
As far as 5G connectivity goes, MediaTek said the processor has already bagged TÜV Rheinland certification for its 5G performance, with tests covering 72 real-world scenarios.

The chip is capable of supporting a resolution of 2520x1080 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 168Hz. It offers up to 16GB of RAM along with a peak download speed of 4.7Gbps and a peak upload speed of 2.5Gbps. The Dimensity 1200 supports 200MP photos with staggered 4K HDR video capture for greater dynamic range. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
