Looks like Xiaomi is getting ready to launch more smartphones in 2021 with 100-megapixel sensors. Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing recently announced on Weibo that more phones are expected to launch this year with such sensors, hinting that the upcoming Redmi phones could also come with 108-megapixel cameras.

It's worth mentioning that this announcement comes a few days before the launch of the Redmi K40 series. Since the Redmi K30 range included 64-megapixel sensor at the back, it will only make sense for the Redmi K40 series to come with an upgrade, which in this case could be the 108-megapixel sensors.

Weibing also posted that the K40 series will launch in the last week before the Spring Festival in China. According to the image shared by him, the upcoming device is supposed to feature a similar circular camera module as we saw in Redmi K30 Pro.

According to preliminary rumours, Redmi K40 series might be powered by the Snapdragon 700 series of chipsets. However, the K40 Pro might come with the flagship Snapdragon 888 Soc. According to teasers, the K40 series in China, might begin from CNY 2,999, which has roughly 34,000. However, the more premium versions with better RAM and storage might be priced more.

Recently, the leaked image of the Redmi K40 smartphone packaging suggested that it could miss out on the charger this time. The leak shows two types of the retail box, one being thinner than the other. The slimmer retail box is said to be due to the absence of the charger. Redmi K40 will be the second smartphone from Xiaomi to skip the charger bundle. Last month, Xiaomi launched the Mi 11 flagship smartphone series without the charger.
