Rumors and leaks are suggesting that the iPhone 14 will be less exciting as well as less powerful than the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Only the Pro iPhones are tipped to get Apple's newest A16 Bionic chipset. But a new leak gives insight on future models as well. It suggests that not only iPhone 14 Pro but the 15 Pro will get the A17 while the non-Pro mobiles will be lagging a year behind. This will apply to other future lineups as well

According to a report by Techradar, if the rumors are to be believed it would cost Apple dear. Why? Because if the non-pro models use older tech, their status as a rival to flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S22 could be threatened.

According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is focusing on developing more Mac chips for its computers and laptops, with the M2 Macs taking priority. And this is why development of chipset for iPhones took a back seat. Going by the rumors and leaks, it seems like Apple is focusing even more on the Pro phones with the chip upgrades. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, this is an intentional shift as Apple knows demand for iPhone 14 Pro models will increase. Kuo in Medium, mentioned that Apple is "significantly boosting the shipment proportion of new iPhone high-end models in 2H22 to 55-60% (vs. 40–50% in the past)."

This trend is likely to be applied for future models as well if Apple continues to give its Pro phones the better chips.

Meanwhile, Gurman also noted that Apple’s focus on Mac chipset isn’t the only issue, but with a reliance on other companies (most notably TSMC) and rising costs because of the global chipset shortage too is a major factor. But it seems that Apple’s interest in the Mac is playing a big role for now.
