Oppo might be working on a gaming smartphone, design spotted on EUIPO website

Gaming is one of the features that many smartphone companies are focusing on nowadays, with many brands launching devices that are tuned for gaming purposes primarily, with other standard features thrown in. Companies like Asus, Xiaomi, Realme, and even OnePlus have launched gaming-oriented phones and if reports are anything to go by, Oppo is playing catch-up. The certification of an unannounced Oppo smartphone was spotted online and it looks like it’s one that’s going to be focused on gaming. The certification details have revealed the design of the device and have dropped some hints towards what the specifications might be.

The certification of the unannounced Oppo smartphone was spotted on the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) site. The certification does not mention a model number or even the marketing name of the smartphone, but there are images. Going by these images it appears that the upcoming Oppo device has a design similar to what we’ve seen on gaming smartphones like Asus ROG Phone 5 and the Lenovo Legion 2 Pro. This leads one to believe that the upcoming device is, in all likelihood, going to be a gaming-focused one.

The images show that the display on the Oppo device does not have a notch or a punch-hole for the front camera, much like the other gaming devices. Instead, the bezels on the top are slightly thick and this is where the front camera is probably going to be housed along with the other sensors. There is a quad-camera setup on the back and a unique design pattern on the back panel. On the right of the device, there is the power button and the volume rockers are on the left.

This is all one can gather from the images spotted on EUIPO. We should get more information about this Oppo smartphone when it shows up on other certification and benchmarking platforms. It can be predicted though that this device is going to compete with the likes of the ASUS ROG Phone 5, Redmi K40 Gaming, OnePlus 9R, and the Lenovo Legion 2 Pro. There is no information about when Oppo might even announce this device, so we will have to wait and watch.
