According to rumors, one of the upgrades for the iPhone 14 is going to be its selfie camera. Apple might be looking at the more expensive LG Innotek front cameras to boost the next generation iPhones. And if the same reports are to be believed, this will cost Apple three-times more! First reported by the Korea IT News, Apple opted for the LG Innotek over an unnamed Chinese company to provide the components for its upcoming smartphone’s selfie cameras. The change in Apple’s front camera supply change management will also re-classify the front cameras from low-end to a high-end component, it revealed.

The iPhone 14 can have a better selfie camera

The iPhone 13 front camera was mainly supplied by Japan’s Sharp and a Chinese company and was looked at as a low-cost component. The LG Innotek cameras, which are more expensive, have largely been used for the rear-cameras in the previous year. Now, according to reports, Apple is set to increase its iPhone selfie camera budget for the iPhone 14 as it plans to add more advanced features like autofocus. The same source also claims that LG Innotek will benefit greatly from this deal as it has emerged as a key supplier for front cameras. The company is also internalizing some key optical parts like Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) parts, camera PCBs, and actuators. Earlier, these were sent alongside the module and were assembled before delivering to Apple.

For the users, a better quality selfie camera with autofocus will change the game. The rear cameras of the iPhone devices have been praised for its high quality, and now the same quality can be experienced through its front camera as well. However, as always, these are just rumors at this point and there has been no such announcement from the official sources. So, do take it with a pinch of salt.
