Clubhouse may still be months away from a release for Android users, but rivals Twitter and Facebook are already working on alternatives that seem to be in testing on both platforms. Twitter even released ‘Spaces’ on iOS late last year, then brought support for Android users last month, with one limitation - you couldn’t start your own chatroom.

But even that limitation seems like it might be going away as early as next month, the Verge reports. At the moment, users can only join a Twitter Space if they spot one at the top of their news feed. We’d previously reported that the company had recently given a select number of users in India the chance to start conversations, but for the rest of the users who gained access to the feature, it was join-only.

Users might be able to host their own Twitter Spaces in April, according to the report, which is based on a conversation the publication heard on a Twitter space hosted by the company itself. It was reportedly mentioned that the goal of the company was to work on Spaces to prepare for anyone to be able to start their own Space by that time.

Twitter plans to release several other features this year, including e-commerce features like a shopping card, 4K image uploads, an “Undo” option for tweets, Spaces, Super Follows (which will allow for subscribers to gain exclusive access to content), as well as a Facebook Groups feature called Communities.

Some of these features, like Undo send and the shopping card have already been spotted by users on early builds, suggesting they might be the first ones to launch later this year, while full access to Twitter Spaces itself could be close at hand, considering the feature itself is already in beta testing on both Android and iOS.
