Leica has long had a partnership deal with Huawei for its cameras, and the duo spawned some of the best mobile camera systems of their respective years. With rumours of Leica ending partnership with Huawei, rumours suggest that the legendary camera brand may join hands with Xiaomi for its upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra flagship.

There have been rumours of Leica choosing either Honor or Xiaomi, but the latest version confirms Xiaomi as Leica's preferred partner. This is yet to be made official, hence you should take this with a pinch of salt. There's nothing on the Honor front yet. The leak comes from Digital Chat Station.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra could have Leica cameras

Leica sticking with Xiaomi does not come as a surprise, given that the latter's Mi 11 Ultra continues to be the second best rated smartphone camera in the world, beaten only by the Huawei P50 Pro. Xiaomi would obviously want to beat that with its next-gen Xiaomi 12 Ultra and having Leica as an expert onboard the camera team could surely help the company.

If Leica joins hands with Xiaomi, the latter will likely rely on two brand partnerships; a first for the smartphone industry. Xiaomi already has a deal with Harmon Kardon for tuning the audio on its high-end Android devices while sister brand Redmi has tied up with JBL for a similar purpose.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is currently the most feature-packed smartphone Xiaomi sells globally but Xiaomi India took it off the shelves in our marketa few weeks ago. That makes the Mi 11 Ultra a very rare Android flagship launched this year. Apart from the extremely versatile camera setup, the Mi 11 Ultra also featured a tiny viewfinder display on the rear.

Xiaomi also baked in fast 67W charging, both wired and wireless means. The phone also flaunted a 120Hz QHD+ AMOLED display that curved on all four sides. The phone was essentially a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra rival but was launched in India at a much lower price of 69,900.

Currently, the Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro is the most high-end phone Xiaomi sells in India. This one starts at 36,999 and comes with a Snapdragon 888 chip, a 108MP main camera, a 120Hz OLED display, a 4520mAh battery with 33W wired charging.
