Xiaomi shows third-gen under-display camera tech, mass production begins 2021

While ZTE is all set to introduce its first smartphone with under-screen front camera tech on September 1, Xiaomi also seems to be gearing up on the same front. The Chinese tech giant has showcased its third-generation of under-display camera technology this time, hinting at a more stable and better performance. This came as a video on Twitter by Shou Zi Chew, Xiaomi president. In the video one can clearly see two Xiaomi handsets, one with punch hole display and one sporting this new tech.

We could see the screen without any indication of where the front-facing camera is. It also shows a person enabling the front camera and clicking images. In the tweet, Chew adds that Xiaomi is ready with this tech and the mass production of this will begin from next year. So we may expect Xiaomi flagships to feature under-display camera tech by next year.

In the third-generation, the firm is said to have achieved transparency by arranging the pixels in a special way that lets the display pass light through the screen, which makes the tech possible. The firm has even doubled the pixel density in both horizontal and vertical directions to get the best brightness and colour accuracy.

Xiaomi this year has also made a mark in the smartphone segment with its Mi 10 flagship. The smartphone is one of the few to feature a 108-megapixel sensor and the world’s first to come with 120x digital zooming. It is also the world’s first mass produced smartphone to support 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Unfortunately, as per reports, the handset may not launch outside China.
