Early today morning John Wick took over a Twitter account that’s linked to PM Narendra Modi’s website. Now, John Wick is not an individual, the people behind this takedown is a bunch of hackers and this account they took over is separate from the PM’s official account and has 2.5 million followers.
The hackers told The Next Web that they wanted nothing to do with the account and only wanted to quash a recent report that blamed them for hacking Paytm Mall. Paytm Mall has, however, denied any breach on their platform.
The hackers also pointed out the PM’s website, narendramodi.in, is full of bugs and they wanted to get in touch with its admins to fix these.
For the while the hackers had control over the Twitter account, they asked followers to donate money to a Bitcoin wallet and said that the money would go to the PM national relief fund for Covid-19.
All these tweets were deleted and the account was restored by Twitter.
Twitter has acknowledged the hack and has pointed out there is no connection between this breach and July hack that saw high profile accounts belonging to Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Elon Musk etc being compromised.
Twitter has said that they are investigating the issue and are currently not aware if additional accounts have been impacted.
