Shazam’s iOS interface just got revamped and there’s also a web beta version

Apple has revamped the Shazam app on iOS with a new modern look and a design language that’s in line with the recent UI updates on Apple Music.

Now, when you launch the app on the iPhone, the screen is dominated by the central button, the tap to Shazam, with access to recently identified music that can be seen by swiping up. Apple has also added the ability to identify songs through the web browser for the first time ever and this is available in beta on shazam.com.

Apple had announced last month that Shazam had witnessed an excess of 200 million monthly active users across iOS and Android. And in case you did not remember, Apple acquired Shazam in 2017 for the “synergies with its music business”.

The new Shazam UI makes the app look more at home with the latest iOS design trends but it continues to have some of the cross-platform “quirks” like the vertical three-dot button for ‘More’ and an Android paradigm.

The main task that Shazam needs to do, that is identify a song, has been prioritised with access to previously Shazamed tracks that can be found in the pull-up drawer at the bottom of the home screen. The update has also increased the reliability of syncing Shazam tracks to either Apple Music or Spotify.

Shazam’s song identification is now also available on the web at shazam.com. Users just need to head over to the website to Shazam tracks on the web browser and this is launching in beta for now and is currently compatible with Chrome, Firefox and Safari on macOS and Chrome OS.
