Microsoft Solitaire is turning 30 today and it's still one of the most played games globally with over 35 million monthly players. Microsoft also wants to break a record today and it needs all hands on deck.
Microsoft launched its classic game back in 1990 as “Windows Solitaire” on Windows 3.0. “The game helped people learn how to drag and drop items on their computer screens using a mouse, which was novel at the time,” Microsoft said in a blog post.
“It really is something special that a game called Microsoft Solitaire has brought together so many people for so many years,” it added.
On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, Microsoft is inviting all players to join its record-breaking event today with the goal to reach the most games on Solitaire completed in one day. Microsoft Solitaire can be downloaded for free on Windows, iOS and Android. You can also play it on your browser and those games will count for the record.
Having existed for 30 years now, Microsoft Solitaire has witnessed over 100 million hands played daily globally. It was also inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame in 2019.
Microsoft Solitaire has the highest number of players from the US, Japan, Brazil, China or the UK. Microsoft Solitaire fans can also get official merchandise like t-shirts and mugs which are available now.
