For every official and government related work you must have been asked for your Aadhaar number. What is this Aadhaar number? According to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Aadhaar number is a 12-digit random number issued by the UIDAI to the residents of India after satisfying the verification process. Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident of India, may voluntarily enrol to obtain an Aadhaar number. In order to enrol yourself for Aadhaar you will have to provide minimal demographic and biometric information during the enrolment process which is totally free of cost.

UIDAI on Thursday informed that people who have applied for Aadhaar can check their enrolment status online. It has also asked to keep your mobile number updated with Aadhaar. "You can check the status of your #Aadhaar enrolment at: https://resident.uidai.gov.in/check-aadhaar, Please keep your mobile number updated with Aadhaar. For more information please visit: https://uidai.gov.in/my-aadhaar/about-your-aadhaar/updating-data-on-aadhaar.html, " UIDAI tweeted.

It can be noted that a person needs to enrol for Aadhaar only once and after de-duplication only one Aadhaar shall be generated, as the uniqueness is achieved through the process of demographic and biometric de-duplication.

How to check Aadhaar status

You can check if your Aadhaar is generated or updated (in case you have updated at an Enrolment/Update center). You will require EID (Enrolment ID) to check your Aadhaar Status.

The EID is displayed on the top of your enrolment/update acknowledgement slip and contains 14 digit enrolment number (1234/12345/12345) and the 14 digit date and time (dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss) of enrolment. These 28 digits together form your Enrolment ID (EID).

In case if you lost EID you can retrieve lost or forgotten EID by your registered mobile number.

Here are the steps to check your Aadhaar status:

1. Go to the official website of UIDAI or you can click on the direct link mentioned here- https://resident.uidai.gov.in/check-aadhaar.

2. You will then have to enter your enrolment ID (EID) and time of enrolment.

3. Then verify the captcha.

4. Finally click on the check status button.
