Mi Notebook 14 series is number one in i7 laptop category in India: Raghu Reddy

Xiaomi also said that the Mi Notebook 14 became the number four brand in the i5 and i7 ultra-slim laptop segment in India in the online space.

Xiaomi is a company that needs no introduction today. The company is known in India not only for the slew of affordable smartphones but also for its accessories and home appliances, which include the Mi Band series, TWS earphones, wireless speakers, beard trimmers, robotic vacuum cleaners and automatic soap dispensers among other things. In 2020, Xiaomi introduced a brand new product category in India: laptops.

The company launched Mi-branded laptops -- the Mi Notebook 14 and the Mi Notebook Horizon Edition in India in June 2020. This was followed by the launch of an e-learning focussed laptop -- the Mi Notebook 14 e-Learning Edition in November 2020. Shortly after this, Xiaomi launched the Mi Notebook 14 (IC) with an integrated webcam in January this year.

Today, Xiaomi announced that in the short span of seven months that it has been in the Indian laptop segment, it has become the number one ultra-slim Windows laptop in the i7 segment.

“IDC recently came out with its statistics for 2020...We are proud to announce that we are the number one ultraslim Windows laptop for the i7 segment online,” Xiaomi India CBO Raghu Reddy said in an interview with HT Tech.

“This goes on to show that customers are trusting us...they've actually made us the number one in one of the more premium segments.” It gives us a lot of confidence and it helps us double down on our plans for this category going into 2021,” he added.

In addition to this, the Xiaomi India executive also shared that the Mi Notebook 14 became the number four brand in the i5 and i7 ultra-slim laptop segment in India in the online space. “Based on IDC shipment numbers, we are the number four brand in the thin and light segment in the online space for i5 and i7...That's the segment that we are playing in,” Reddy shared.

Needless to say that the Mi Notebook series has captured quite a sizable market share in the online laptop segment in India. And the company attributes a bunch of factors for this success.

First is the processor. All of Xiaomi's laptops in India are powered by 10th generation processors. They all feature 8GB of RAM and a faster and more efficient SSD storage space. In addition to this, the company says that the durable yet lightweight design of the Mi Notebook 14 series makes it popular among users. To give you an idea, the Mi Notebook 14 series laptops weigh between 1.35Kg for the Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition and 1.5Kg for the Mi Notebook 14 (IC). Another factor that contributes to the overall likeability of the Mi laptops, as per the company, is the long battery life of its laptop.

But specifications are not the only factor that helped Xiaomi get a significant piece of the pie. The company says that its ecosystem integration, wherein users can use their Mi smartphones and Mi Bands to access various features of their Mi laptops, coupled with its outreach program have also contributed to this success.

“We simplified the choice for our end consumers. There were just two series when we launched and all of them come with a 10th processor, 8GB RAM and an SSD. And they all work great for productivity work. So, consumers just had to pick whether they wanted display graphics or not,” Karthik Murugeshan Subramani-Laptop Marketing for Xiaomi India said in an interview with HT Tech.

“We partnered with Microsoft and Intel to produce a series called ‘Demystified' where we spoke about how processors and how operating systems..how the whole thing works for end consumers and this also helped people to make up their mind about what laptops to pick,” he added.
