Apple won’t give you a charger and earpods in iPhone retail boxes going forward
Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models may have made several fans excited with the new design, better cameras, displays and everything else. The price may have also influenced some Android users to move to Apple ecosystem. However, one of the biggest disappointments they may have got is the company’s step to remove the charger and earpods from the retail box. Yes, that’s right. It’s not just the new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models that won’t come with chargers and earpods in the but all the older iPhones as well going forward.
So why has Apple done this? It’s because the firm is pushing to cut carbon emission and improve the environment. It has claimed that by 2030 the entire firm will be 100% carbon emission free. So, by removing accessories, Apple says it can cut iPhone packaging by 70% and ship more stock at the same time.
In order to play well with the environment, the firm says that the new iPhones use recycled materials. 99% of it is recycled tungsten and 98% are rare earth elements while 35% are plastic and several other components. As for the magnets inside the iPhone 12 models, they’re made of 100% recycled rare earth elements.
Besides iPhone 12 series, other handsets that will come without a charger and earpods in the future include iPhone SE, iPhone XR, and iPhone 11.
However, there will still be one accessory that will come inside the box – Lightning to USB Type-C connector cable. It works with any standard USB Type-C adapter. “These changes will cut over 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to removing nearly 450,000 cars from the road per year,” Apple said in the release.
During the event, the firm said that there are some 2 billion Apple chargers in the world and more than 700 million EarPods out there already.
So, if you are a first time iPhone buyer, get ready to pay extra for the charger and earpods/airpods.
