iPhone 12 Pro Max is not just a bigger screen version of iPhone 12 Pro, here's how
Since past few years it has always been the case that every time when Apple launches a premium iPhone, it always comes with a ‘Max' or ‘Plus' version. Take iPhone 8, 8 Plus, iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. And mostly these were considered as the larger screen variant of their smaller siblings. The only change one could see was in the screen size and battery capacity. However, with iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, Apple shifted gears a bit and made both more distinguishable by changing the camera tech as well.
We already know that iPhone 12 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen while the ‘Max' version has a 6.7-inch model with better battery. Although both have three cameras at the back, iPhone 12 Pro Max has a slightly better one. How? Because it has something called as Sensor-shift optical image stabilisation. This means the entire sensor (not only the lens) shifts in X and Y axis so you get a more stabilised video or image when shooting while on the move. On the other hand, iPhone 12 Pro gets the usual Dual optical image stabilisation.
What adds to the list is that the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 2.5x optical zoom in with 5x optical zoom range while the 12 Pro stays at 2x optical zoom in and 4x optical zoom range. Even the digital zoom range goes up to 12x in iPhone 12 Pro Max while the smaller screen model has up to 10x zoom. While shooting videos, Pro Max gets 2.5x optical zoom in and digital zoom up to 7x while the smaller model has 2x optical zoom in and digital zoom of up to 6x.
On the pixel level, the Pro Max model has a larger pixel size of 1.7um, which results in more light intake so night shots will come brighter. Both models have a LiDAR sensor though. Rest of the specs stay the same.
So, in case you want the best camera iPhone, you can't say its both the iPhone 12 Pro models. The iPhone 12 Pro Max comes with more features this time.
