(Nothing) ![Author Photo](https://images.hindustantimes.com/tech/static/revamp/images/png/HTTech-new-circle-logo.png) ### By HT TECH The Nothing Phone (1) is quite something to look at! While the official launch is still months away, Nothing founder Carl Pei couldn't wait to show off the Nothing Phone (1) to the world! Well, not exactly showing off the entire phone but how it would look from the rear. In a world's first look, the Nothing Phone (1) has been shown from the rear, which like the Nothing ear (1) earbuds will wear a transparent body, showing its internals. This wasn't surprising, considering Nothing's affection for transparent gadgets. We saw the Nothing ear (1) last year with its transparent design, both in white and black colours. With the Phone (1), Nothing is now going to do a transparent phone, which is a rarity in the industry. We have seen companies try to do semi transparent designs in the past but mostly with fake stickers pasted on the rear (Xiaomi Mi 8). The Nothing phone will be entirely transparent. Carl Pei says in this report from Wallpaper.com that they wanted to do something different. "When you look inside almost any Android phone, they’re almost all exactly the same. Of course, the industry is optimising everything they do, year on year, trying to squeeze the most performance they can out of the smallest space," says head of design Tom Howard. From a design perspective, we really wanted to bring the inside out, and that meant working with the engineers to start from first principles,’ says Howard. ‘There are over 400 components in a smartphone, assembled in layers. We wanted to celebrate the “good ones”, the things we thought were really interesting to emphasise. From an industry perspective, you’re looking at components that the end user normally never sees, so you almost have to overhaul the entire manufacturing process in order to highlight them,’ he adds. Hence, we could be seeing an interesting design once this phone launches later this year. And Nothing would like to keep a consistent design language, just like Apple, says Carl Pei. "‘One of the issues we saw with the tech industry was that nobody had a consistent way of designing products. Apart from Apple – you can see their coherent vision. But if you had a table full of products from another manufacturer, you don’t really see that. From the very start, we wanted to have a very distinct and iconic design language of our own.’ ALSO READ: Nothing Phone (1) launch date leaked!
