Nothing smartphone, Power (1) power bank coming in 2022!
After the Nothing ear (1) earbuds, Carl Pei’s Nothing is enroute to launching a Nothing smartphone and Nothing power bank. No specs or details revealed yet.
Nothing has relied on hype since its birth and after it released the Nothing ear(1) earbuds, the company is about to do something again (get the pun? Nothing – something? Never mind.). Based on a recent report, a Nothing smartphone and Nothing power bank will launch as soon as early 2021. This is no surprise as Carl Pei, the founder, had said earlier that Nothing will explore all product categories eventually.
You should also note that Nothing bought Essential – another startup by Andy Rubin, who himself is credited as the creator of Android. Details are sparse on the Nothing smartphone and power bank but we do know something about these (see the pun again?). The Nothing smartphone will rely on a Qualcomm chip since the company announced a partnership recently. On the other hand, the power bank will be called Nothing Power (1). No surprises here.
Nothing smartphone, power bank in early 2022
The information comes courtesy of noted tipster Mukul Sharma via a 91Mobiles report. While is there no specific information on these products, we expect Nothing to start teasing by the time 2021 ends. After all, Nothing relies on hype to market its products and its first product got off to a warm reception.
Will the Nothing smartphone and power bank carry forward the transparent design theme that Nothing ear (1) earbuds flaunt? We won't be surprised if it does. Nothing is most likely to rely on Essential's knowledge for its first smartphone. Essential itself had earned fame for unique looking phones a few years ago, especially the Essential Phone 1.
What remains to be seen is which segment of the market does Nothing target with its first smartphone. It is highly possible that the first Nothing smartphone could go up against the likes of iPhone 13 and Samsung Galaxy S22 (rumoured for early 2022 launch), given that the Essential Phone 1 was a high-end Android phone back in 2017.
On the other hand, similar to the Nothing ear (1) earbuds, Nothing could get into the more competitive midrange smartphone space to carve a pie out of Samsung, Apple, Oppo, Realme and others.
At the moment, the Nothing ear (1) sells at a price of ₹5,999 on Flipkart and offers high-end audio features like ANC, wireless charging, in-ear detection, and more.
