Xiaomi to launch 108-megapixel camera phone on Jan 5

Rumours suggest it will be the Mi 10i, which is said to be a rebranded version of Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G.

Xiaomi on Tuesday revealed it will showcase a new handset with a 108-megapixel camera on January 5, 2021.

Even as Xiaomi has not disclosed the official name of the phone as yet, reports suggest it will be the long-rumoured Mi 10i, which is said to be a rebranded version of the recently launched Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. Reports suggest Mi 10i will come in 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB RAM and storage combinations. It will also be available in black, blue, and orange-green gradient colour options.

Xiaomi had launched Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G last month. Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, the base model is priced at CNY 1,599 ( 18,000 approximately).

Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G comes with a 6.67-inch full HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 750 processor paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G also packs a 4,820mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. On the software front, it runs Android 10 with MIUI 12 layered on top.

Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G sports a quad-camera setup at the rear with a 108-megapixel primary sensor, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2-megapixel macro sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The smartphone has a 16-megapixel front camera for selfies.

Other features of Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C 2.0, Infrared port, and GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS.

It is not clear what changes the model will have for the Indian market if the phone in question is rebadged Redmi Note Pro 5G. We are likely to find out more about Xiaomi's first phone in India in 2021 in the coming days. Until then, stay tuned.
