Axis Bank has warned its account holders about the dangers posed by online fraudsters who are out to steal money by using technology to dupe people. In a notification sent on Friday, Axis Bank warned its account holders of 2 things specifically. Firstly, it said customers should beware of fraud calls and remote desktop applications as these are used by fraudsters to fish out personal bank account details and secondly, that they should never download any apps on the recommendations of strangers or anyone else like AnyDesk and TeamViewer.

How fraudsters do it - the modus operandi: First of all they call bank account holders and tell them that they are bank representatives or executives. The fraudsters sound so professional and use the right words to convince customers that they are actually calling from the bank, when actually they have nothing to do with it. 4 things Axis Bank account holders should know about fraudsters' modus operandi:

a) The fraudster may call you to complete KYC details online or transfer funds

b) They may request you to click on any link or download remote desktop apps like AnyDesk / TeamViewer

c) Fraudsters may ask you to then share the 9-digit code, which will provide the fraudster access to your smartphone, laptop or computer.

d). Since device access is compromised they can see your PIN, MPIN and can carry out unauthorised money transfer transactions

Just don't do this: The thing not to do, according to Axis Bank is pick up phone calls from unknown numbers. However, if customers have unknowingly picked up, under no circumstances should they speak to them. As soon as the bank customer finds out that they are speaking to someone they do not know, they should hang up. Remember a bank will never call you to ask you about your personal account details.

However, if account holders actually pick up and talk to unknown persons, then danger increases a lot. Fraudsters are very clever and they manage to convince people with their glib talk and they will ask for remote desktop apps to be downloaded by bank account holders. Axis Bank reveals what the account holders must never do, it said, "The ‘AnyDesk' app is a new modus operandi by fraudsters to gain access to your bank details & carry out fraudulent transactions." Be aware there can be other applications of similar nature & same modus operandi.

Here is the list of top 4 things to avoid- do not share the following details:

1. Debit card details include CVV, ATM, PIN

2. OTP & mPIN

3. Mobile application activation message

4. Do not download any Third-party remote desktop applications like (Anydesk / Quick Support)

So, to keep their money safe, Axis Bank account holders just have to be more careful and just must not make this mistake of trusting unknown people and giving them their personal bank account details.
