Late 2013 game 'Battlefield 4' will welcome spectators into the action with a new mode that lets them switch between first-person, third-person, free camera and overhead perspectives to see just what's going on.

'When we designed this, we took a look at Spectator Modes all across the years, and we looked at eSports spectators,' explained game producer Dan Matros. 'For major eSports events it's cool to have a Spectator, but originally it was only to see if anyone cheats. It's evolved to a big spectator sport.'

Speaking of cheaters, 'Battlefield' studio DICE is yet to elaborate on how it will prevent players from using Spectator Mode to see exactly what their opponents are up to; PC game 'Dota 2,' for example, introduces a time delay to prevent such things.

The 'Call of Duty,' and 'Counter Strike' games are among many others that have already implemented spectator features; this 'Battlefield 4' manouever may indicate an increased willingness to embrace the competitive gaming scene and become involved in big money tournaments as 'Call of Duty' has done.
