Fitbit officially launches its wearables in India

Fitbit the market leader in wearable device is all set launch in India with products ranging from 3,990 to 19,990. Other top companies in this segment are Samsung, Xiaomi, Micromax, Garmin, Jawbone, Google and Apple.

Chinese and local smart phone players like Micromax and Xiaomi have been offering single models of basic activity wearable at a price of 1000, but only through the online flash sales models. Apple, LG and Motorola have been selling smart watches with basic activity tracking capabilities from a price range of 15000 to 35000.

'Globally and in India, wearables are in nascent stage and offer huge opportunity,' Woody Scal Chief Revenue Officer Fitbit told HT.

Fitbit aims to be a leader in the wearable category in India within next two years. India will be among the top 5 markets for Fitbit globally in next couple of years, said Scal. The company launched seven products across India through more than 300 stores from Tuesday. "We are aware of many companies offering wearable products, but at Fitbit we will offer personalize video based coaching through our App-- Fitstar to consumers,' said Scal.

FitStar users can track their daily activity with Fitbit devices and get a tailored exercise program designed specifically for them across iOS devices and desktop computers.

According to IDC June 2015 report on wearables, vendors shipped a total of 11.4 million wearables in Q1 '15, a 200.0% increase from the 3.8 million wearables shipped in Q1 '14.

The US based firm with presence in 54 countries has tied up with Reliance, Croma a Tata company, Helios from Titan and will also be available on Amazon India for distribution and sale of these wearable. They have also appointed world's leading badminton player Sania Nehwal, bollywood actors Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor actress for its products that were launched on Tuesday.

The company will launch a 360 degree marketing campaign for the products both in TV and print.
