Instagram today announced the launch of its Instagram Lite app in 170 countries around the globe. The announcement was made by Instagram's parent company's Facebook via a blog post wherein it said that the app is ‘designed to provide people living in remote areas with a high-quality Instagram experience using minimal data'.

As the name suggests, Instagram Lite is a lighter version of the Instagram app and its Android version, which is available for download on the Google Play Store, weighs just 2MB as against the standard app that weighs around 30MB based on the device that a user is using. The company hasn't launched an iOS version of its Instagram Lite app yet.
