LG has revealed a very interesting smartphone yesterday, ahead of the Mobile World Congress 2012 event, however, the world wasn't impressed even though the device presented amazing 3D capabilities. Well, the 'world' wants more, and the South Korean company will deliver the LG Optimus 4X HD.

The latest LG Android smartphone that will be officially presented at MWC 2012 is running on Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, and it's powered by a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 1.5GHz processor. If the Optimus 2X was the first dual-core smartphone in the world, then the Optimus 4X HD will be among the first phone to have a quad-core processor.

This quad-core Tegra 3 CPU actually features a fifth core called Companion Core. Nvidia added a fifth CPU in order to handle simple tasks that don't require so much processing power. The Companion Core will take care of calls, music playback, email and SMS messages, and others. The other four cores will handle multitasking, HD video playback, gaming, and other apps or tasks which require a lot of processing power.

The LG Optimus 4X HD release date is Q2 2012 in Europe, while other markets will get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone soon after that.

Among the LG Optimus 4X HD features we can also find an impressive 4.7-inch True HD IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 720, 16GB internal memory, 1GB RAM, 8-megapixel camera on the back with autofocus, LED flash, and 1080p HD video recording, 1.3-megapixel camera on the back, MHL, DLNA streaming, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, gyroscope, and a 2,150mAh battery.

Although this phone will have a great battery life thanks to the Companion Core, LG felt that it was necessary to bring as much juice as power to the users who will be tempted to play games and watch videos on this baby.

The South Korean company failed to let us know whether the device supports NFC or any 4G networks, but we're going to find out all the details on February 27th, in Barcelona, Spain.

Judging by the specs of the Optimus 4X HD, we can safely assume that LG is a serious contender at Samsung's and Apple's supremacy on the smartphone market. HTC shouldn't be neglected either, but so far we haven't heard anything from the Taiwanese firm.
