The phonemaker has introduced a range of brightly colored accessories that pair with a smartphone or computer for keeping track of everything from keys to children.

Measuring just 30x30x10mm, the Treasure tags are small enough to fit inside a wallet, or thanks to a lanyard, worn on a keychain.

They communicate with an app via Bluetooth or NFC and when an object or a person fitted with a tag goes out of range an alarm will sound.

The location of a tag can also be checked online using Nokia's Here Maps system. Information about the devices leaked back in July 2013 but until now, Nokia has remained silent about them.

However, on Wednesday they were formally launched and will initially only work with Windows Phone 8 handsets, although Nokia has confirmed that Android and iPhone apps are also in development.

Each tag will cost €24.90 ($29.90) when they go on sale in April, and their batteries are good for six months before they need replacing. Available in Yellow, Cyan, White or Black, up to four individual treasure tags can be tracked or managed via one device.
